Checked against the source: Medicare.gov says SNP premiums vary by plan and that if you have Medicare and Medicaid, most costs are covered. CMS lists the 2026 standard Part B premium as $202.90 a month. New York's MSP 2026 page shows QMB and QI income limits and that QMB also covers Medicare deductibles and coinsurance.

Step by step: check what you would really pay

  1. Check your Medicaid and MSP status. Look for a letter from HRA or your county that says Medicaid, QMB, or QI. If you have full Medicaid but no MSP letter, ask whether you are in the MSP. The MSP is what pays Part B.
  2. Look at your Social Security check. If $202.90 is still coming out for Part B, you may not be in the MSP yet, or it has not started.
  3. Look up the plan on Medicare Plan Finder. Enter your ZIP code and your Extra Help status. Plan Finder shows the plan premium and drug costs with Extra Help counted.
  4. Check your drugs. Enter each prescription in Plan Finder to see the copay in that plan.
  5. Ask about extras in writing. Dental, vision, hearing, and over-the-counter allowances vary by plan and year. Ask member services to show you where they appear in the Evidence of Coverage.
  6. Talk it over with HIICAP at 1-800-701-0501 before you switch. It is free.

QMB: why you should not get a bill

CMS says federal law bans Medicare providers, including pharmacies, from billing people in the QMB program for Medicare deductibles, coinsurance, or copays. People in QMB have no legal obligation to pay those amounts for Medicare-covered services. This applies in a D-SNP too.

If you get a bill anyway: call the provider, say you are a Qualified Medicare Beneficiary, and show your Medicaid or QMB card. If it does not stop, call your D-SNP member services and 1-800-MEDICARE.

If you have only QI, or no MSP

QI pays the Part B premium only. It does not cover doctor copays, and CMS's QMB billing protection does not apply. In that case, your D-SNP's copays and your Medicaid coverage (if any) decide what you pay. HIICAP can go through your exact plan with you for free.

  • Choosing a plan for the extras without checking your doctors and drugs.
  • Paying a bill for Medicare copays when you have QMB.
  • Using cost numbers from an old article. They change every year.
